How do I actually get to Zhangjiajie?

With a connection at each end, and we plan it with you rather than leaving it in your lap. There is no nonstop service here from any of our seven source markets in either direction, so you either take one international connection through Singapore, Hong Kong or Seoul, or you fly or take high-speed rail in from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Two things shape your dates: the Singapore connection runs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only, and the Shanghai leg takes close to a full day door to door. That leg sits outside this plan and outside its base price, and its routing, issuing party and who pays are written into your quote before you commit. This is also why the plan is sold to guests already in China or as a segment of a longer trip.

I am afraid of heights. Is this route off the table?

No, and you will not lose any listed item for it. Everything that gains height on this plan does it for you: the Bailong Elevator at Yuanjiajie and the 7.4-kilometer cableway onto Tianmen Mountain both put you on top without a climb, and the viewing at Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain is done from flat platforms with rails. The two glass items are the only places where nerve comes into it, and both have a solid path running beside them that arrives at the same place: the Tianmen cliff walkway's glass section and the canyon glass bridge, which is an optional add-on and not part of this plan unless you ask for it. Take the solid path and your day is the same day at the same price.

What if the cableway is shut on my day?

Then we move the item, and if we cannot move it we tell you in advance what happens instead. Four conditions stop the machines here: high wind, lightning, ice and annual maintenance. Each of them can stop the elevator, the cableways and the cliff walkway. We cannot promise otherwise, because nobody can promise weather, and this destination has no second site of the same type to move you to. What we do: where the operating schedule allows, the affected item moves to another day inside your stay, which is one reason the plan is five days rather than three. Where it cannot move, your quote states in writing before you pay what your order does in that case, and we do not take an order without that in writing. The days that do not depend on machines, Tianzi Mountain's terrace and the Golden Whip Stream walk, stand either way.

Why is there no lunch in the price when days two to four are all inside the parks?

Because we have not settled it yet, and we would rather tell you than quietly assume. Those three days do run across the middle of the day inside a scenic area, so lunch is a real question rather than a detail. The arrangement and who pays for it are being confirmed with our ground partners, and until they are settled your quote states in writing what your order does for lunch on those three days and on whose account it sits. Four hotel breakfasts are in the base price; dinners are recommended and booked by your guide, on your account.

Can I book this today?

Not yet, and here is exactly what is missing. the remaining items have to be settled first: the connection leg at both ends with its routing, its issuing party and who pays; three in-park conveyance items with the scenic areas; how the four nights split between a base in the Wulingyuan scenic area and one in Zhangjiajie city; the glass bridge add-on price; and this plan's pre-listing review, which it has not yet been through. Until those items are done we take no orders and no deposits, and nothing here is priced on an item we cannot name. What you can do now is send us your dates and where you are coming from inside China, and we will write to you on the day it opens.

You have probably seen these pillars: in a film, or on a screen somewhere. You probably could not have said which country they stand in. Five days sit in one place because this landscape only resolves from more than one standing point. Day two puts you on top of the pillars. Day three sends you across to a different mountain and out along its cliff face. Day four starts above the densest stand of them and ends underneath, walking a streambed on your own legs. The last morning comes indoors, to a loom belonging to the people who named the mountain you stood on. By the stream you'll notice you have stopped reaching for your phone. The name of the place, and the size of it, is what goes home with you.

Day 1 · Land, and let the mountains wait

nothing is scheduled. Your guide is reachable, and dinner near the hotel is recommended and booked for you if you want it, on your account. There are four evenings on this plan and none of them carries a promised program: see Special Notes.

TransportYour driver and vehicle are waiting at Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport or at Zhangjiajie West railway station, whichever your connection lands at, and the run to your hotel is yours to sleep through. The connection leg that brings you here sits outside this plan, and its routing, its issuing party and who pays for it are written into your quote before you commit to anything.

TransportThe flat ground around the city gives out and the rock starts standing up on both sides of the road, in single columns rather than ridges. Where your base sits inside the Wulingyuan scenic area, that run out from the city takes about fifty minutes.

Day 2 · On top of the picture

SightYou go up as part of the plan, not as a ticket bought at the door, and you step out at the Yuanjiajie level with the whole morning still in front of you. The number of rides in your order, one way or return, is written into your quote. This route keeps clear of the national holiday week for exactly this reason: the queue here runs to hours in peak season, and we would rather sell you a different week than sell you a line.

SightFlat platforms along the rim, and the pillars standing up in the gaps between them, close enough that you stop reading them as scenery and start reading them as objects with tops and sides. This is the landscape the makers of the film Avatar drew on, which is why you recognized it before you could name it. Three to four hours, and the walking is level.

SightA natural stone arch spanning the gap between two pillars, weathered out of the rock rather than built onto it. Stand at the rail at one end and look along the span with the drop underneath it: that is the fifteen seconds worth filming today. You'll catch yourself lowering your voice up here, without deciding to.

SightThis day runs across the middle of the day inside the scenic area. The lunch arrangement for these in-park days is being confirmed with our ground partners, and your quote states in writing what your order does for lunch and on whose account it sits.

Day 3 · A whole day on the outside of a cliff

the mountain runs a lighting program on some evenings. It is not a promised item on this plan, it is not priced into your quote, and where it is not running on your confirmed date it is simply dropped and the price does not change.

Sight7.4 kilometers in one continuous ride, from the city up onto the mountain. The town flattens out under the cabin, the road below folds back on itself against the slope, and by the time the cabin docks you have already been shown how far the mountain stands above the place you slept. Sit facing back down the line.

SightA walkway bolted to the outside of the cliff wall, taking you along the face of it. Partway along, the floor turns to glass; a solid path runs beside that section the whole way, and both arrive at the same place. Put a hand on the rail and look straight out rather than down: the valley opens sideways, and the far wall is close enough to read.

SightThe opening in the cliff wall that the mountain is named after. Your guide points out where it sits from the walkway and explains what the name means, which is the short answer to why this mountain has a name and the ones opposite do not.

Day 4 · Above them, then underneath them

SightYou come out onto the high terrace and the pillars are no longer individual things: they run away from the terrace in ranks, and the far ones go pale before they stop. This is the one place on the plan where the question stops being what one of them looks like and becomes how many of them there are.

SightA level path along a clear stream at the foot of the cliffs, under forest canopy, and the pillars you were standing above at breakfast are now standing over you. The section is cut on the day, between about an hour and about three, to whatever your party's legs still have in them; the vehicle waits at the end you finish at rather than the end you started from. Wild macaques live along here and take food from guests, so your guide walks you through that before you set off and food stays out of sight.

SightWhere you have added the Grand Canyon glass bridge, it goes into this day; where you have not, the day finishes earlier by the stream. It is quoted separately, never bundled, and never counted as a reason to book this plan.

Day 5 · Off the mountain, into a room

SightAn hour at a loom, watching traditional Tujia brocade being woven and having the work explained: which thread does what, and how long a piece takes. These are the people whose leader gave Tianzi Mountain its name, which is the reason this is the last thing on the plan rather than an errand on the way to the airport. Hands-on weaving is not promised, and where the workshop is not open to hands-on work that day the visit runs as a visit.

SightThe shuttle goes across, the beater comes back, and a hand's width of pattern takes longer than you expect. Stand at the end of the frame where you can see the finished part and the warp at the same time. You'll find yourself doing the arithmetic on how many days one of these takes, and that is when the four days on the mountain get their scale.

TransportYour driver takes you to Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport or to Zhangjiajie West railway station, timed against your actual departure and checked order by order, with room to spare rather than trimmed to the minute. Your onward connection leg is arranged outside this plan and follows the terms of whoever issued it.

Every booking carries a connection — there is no nonstop service to Zhangjiajie from any of our seven source markets, inbound or outbound, so each end of your trip needs a connection leg. Two facts are worth knowing before you pick dates. The Singapore connection operates three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, so taking it fixes your departure day to one of those three. And the Shanghai to Zhangjiajie leg takes close to a full day once ground time at both ends is counted, so it is planned as a travel day and not as a morning.
This plan is not sold as a standalone entry product — it is sold to guests who are already inside China, or as the Zhangjiajie segment of a longer China trip. We say that up front rather than quoting you five days and leaving the two hardest days off the page.
The 10-day visa-free transit policy is not a channel for this plan — this destination sits in Hunan, and our own port records state the permitted stay area for that policy two different ways in two different places. Until that is closed with the authorities we take no order under that policy, including from a guest who is already in China on it. We say so before payment and we do not work around it.
Departure window — no departures October 1 to 7, the national holiday week, when the queues at the elevator and the cableways run to hours. The sellable departure window on this plan is October 8 to November 30, 2026. December departures are confirmed only after the scenic area's current-season operating announcement is in hand, because the winter operating hours of the lifts and cableways and their annual maintenance shutdowns are not on record with us.
Weather and maintenance stoppages — four conditions stop the machines here: high wind, lightning, ice and annual maintenance. They stop the elevator, the cableways and the cliff walkway. This destination holds no second site of the same type to move an item to. Where a stopped item can be moved to another day inside your stay we move it. Where it cannot, your quote states in writing, before payment, what your order does in that case. No order is taken without that in writing.
The evening lighting program — it runs on the evening of day three when the program is operating on your confirmed date. It is not a promised item on this plan and it is not priced into your quote; where it is not operating that evening it is dropped and the price does not change.
The glass sections — neither the glass section of the Tianmen Mountain cliff walkway nor the optional canyon glass bridge is written as a must-do item. A solid path runs beside each of them. A guest who takes the solid path loses no listed item from the day and pays the same price.
Hands-on weaving — the brocade workshop visit is in the base price. Hands-on weaving is not, because we cannot promise the workshop will be open to it on your date. Where it is not, the item runs as a visit only and the price does not change.
Wild macaques on the Golden Whip Stream — wild macaques live along that walking section and take food from guests. Your guide walks you through it before you set off, and food is carried out of sight.
Four evenings, none of them programmed — apart from the day-three lighting program, which is not promised, this plan carries no committed evening content. Dinners are recommended and booked by your guide, on your account. We would rather say that than list an evening we cannot confirm.
Two hillside days are never merged — Tianmen Mountain runs a full day and never shares a day with Yuanjiajie. Any request to compress this plan below five days is quoted as a different plan.
Confirmation and changes — the confirmation-time commitment and the change and refund terms are being finalized with our ground partners. Until they are settled, each quote states in writing its own confirmation deadline and its change and refund conditions. One structural fact helps here: this plan holds no flight leg and no rail leg of its own, so a date change touches hotels, tickets and the operating schedules of the lifts only. Your connection leg sits outside this plan and follows the terms of whoever issued it.

Is Five Days Your Length?

Fewer than five days?

The plan comes apart in one place only. The last morning at the brocade workshop can go, which makes it four days and three nights. Below that it stops being this plan: Tianmen Mountain takes a whole day and never shares one with Yuanjiajie, so a three-day version is quoted as a different plan rather than as a trimmed version of this one. Tell us your dates and how many of you are coming, and we will say which of the two you are actually asking for.
