My last session might overrun. Does the plan survive that?

Yes: day one has no fixed start. Your driver waits, the hutong walk shortens and the tea table keeps its hour; nothing later in the trip depends on that afternoon.

I've been to Beijing for work but never seen the Great Wall. Can it fit?

Yes: ask us to rebuild day two around the Great Wall at Mutianyu, cable car up, toboggan down if you like. It replaces the morning rather than stretching the day, and evenings stay free either way.

Will my evenings really stay free?

Yes, by design: every scheduled day ends by dinner, and your guide books dinner only if you want it. The one exception is the optional Great Wall evening add-on, which takes a full evening and never joins the plan by default.

Do the extra days fit my visa?

Usually yes, and we check before you pay. The UK, most of Europe and Canada enter visa-free for days; so do Australia and New Zealand. We confirm your entry date, conference days and these three days all fit inside that window. If you hold a Chinese visa, the days simply count within your permitted stay. If you entered visa-free under the 10-day transit policy, the whole stay must fit that window and your onward flight must leave for a third country or region: we verify both at booking, and if it doesn't fit, we say so instead of selling.

Beijing, After the Conference

Conference Beijing is a real place: badge lanyards, shuttle loops, a skyline through tinted glass. A short drive north, the same city keeps lakes, lanes and courtyards on an entirely different clock. This plan starts the afternoon your last session ends, because that afternoon usually gets thrown away. Three days, one city, no flights. Lanes and a tea table change your pace; the lakeside palace and the national collection put everything in order; a slow morning of heaven and handwork sends you off. Evenings stay unscheduled: your inbox comes along, it just doesn't get daylight. You'll fly home with a piece you finished at a workshop bench, and a Beijing no slide deck ever showed you.

Beijing · Day 1 - Day 3

Day 1 · Out of the hall, into the lanes

The conference ends at midday. The city starts where the shuttle loop stops.

Pickup, wherever the day leaves you Your driver meets you at the venue or your hotel when the closing session actually ends; a late finish just shortens the walk, not the plan.

Shichahai hutongs You walk courtyard lanes and lakeside streets, grey brick and doorway stones on both sides of you, old Beijing running its late-afternoon errands. By the water, the light goes long across the lake while the neighbourhood comes out for its evening: stand on the bank a minute; that is the picture you keep.

Tea sitting An hour at a courtyard tea table: your first proper gaiwan, someone showing you how to brew, pour and hold it, two teas to tell apart. Somewhere in the second cup, you'll notice you've stopped checking the time.

Evening Yours, and meant to be: your guide recommends and books dinner around your taste (on your account), or the laptop opens back at the hotel; nothing else is scheduled.

Day 2 · The lake and the timeline

A morning on the court's lake, an afternoon in the national collection. Second looks are when Beijing starts to make sense.

Summer Palace A full morning at the estate where the late Qing court spent its summers: the second Beijing that the Empress Dowager Cixi ran from a garden. Give the lake shore an unhurried half hour: water on one side of you, palace rooflines climbing away on the other; that is the morning's picture. Your guide trims the loop to your legs and the cold.

Lunch Near the palace or back in town: your guide books it, on your account.

National Museum of China Your timed entry is booked ahead by us, so you walk in on schedule. Inside: bronzes, ceramics, sculpture, calligraphy: the country you deal with all year, laid out in order for once. You'll start placing things: this morning's palace, a client's hometown, the bronze in front of you, all on one line.

Evening Unscheduled again: dinner where your guide points you, then the hotel desk is all yours.

Day 3 · Heaven, handwork, home

One altar, one workbench, then the airport. The last morning is kept slow on purpose.

Temple of Heaven You stand where Ming and Qing emperors prayed for the harvest: the Hall of Prayer, the Imperial Vault, the Circular Mound. One axis, a single grammar: circles for heaven, squares for earth. Stand at the centre of the Circular Mound and look up: a round of sky fitted to a round of stone.

Cloisonné workshop About ninety minutes at a bench under an artisan's eye: wire outlines on copper, colour filled in, a shine that comes from fire. What you finish rides home in your carry-on. An hour in, you'll look up from the wire and realise the flight has stopped being the day's main event.

Museum reservation — Entry is by timed reservation and the system favours local phone numbers; we book your slot using the details from your confirmation.
Season — October to December, Beijing is cold and dry; this itinerary prioritises long outdoor mornings and keeps afternoons indoors or at a bench.
Optional add-on (not yet on sale) — the Simatai Great Wall by night is sold only as its own separate evening. About 8 hours door to door including dinner, it takes the whole evening, and there is no work window that night. We open booking once the operator's winter schedule and cold-weather arrangements are verified; quoted separately, never added by default.
Hotels & venues — named in your confirmation; "or similar" always means the same class and comparable location, never a quiet downgrade.
