This lake got its name because there used to be a great amount of arrow bamboo growing around it. Arrow bamboo is panda's favorite food and therefore many pandas used to inhabit around here. However, the arrow bamboos have flowered and died. Couldn't find enough food, the pandas have migrated away from this lake. In the lake, there are also many calcified trees that are called coral trees. These are the body of the trees that died and fell in the lake. The calcium in water covers the tree and protect it from decaying.
Bonsai Shoal is a stretch of travertine beaches. The clear water here flows slowly over through woods of weeds, pines, azaleas, poplars, cypresses, and willows, etc., and naturally features bonsais of different woods.
The best way to reach Jiuzhaigou by bus is to take bus at Chengdu.
